Carson City Mint Coin Show at the Nevada State Museum

The Carson City Mint Coin Show at the Nevada State Museum is back August 27-28, 2010 and offers something for everyone. Held both days from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, the show features over 30 dealers, free appraisals and kids activities.

“From fabulous raffles prizes to numismatic education and gold panning, this year’s coin show promises to be fun for the whole family,” said Curator of Education, Deborah Stevenson. “With the price of gold going sky-high, all of us should take up panning for gold.”

Stevenson said she was also pleased to welcome a trio from the Mile High Jazz Band Association Saturday, August 28, from noon to 1:00 pm; the trio will provide entertainment while the Friends of the Nevada State Museum sell cold drinks and treats.

Throughout the event, Historic Coin Press No. 1, will be operating much like it did in 1870, but now stamping out Pony Express Commemorative Medallions instead of coins.

Raffle tickets are now on sale for the Grand Prize, a precious 20 ounce silver bar embedded with two one ounce .999 fine 150th Anniversary Pony Express medallions. Fabricated at Northwest Territorial Mint/Medallic Art and sponsored by John Etten of Heritage Collectables, this unique, one-of-a-kind prize is valued at $ 1,500. The 2010 raffle prizes also include: $1,000 gift certificate to Northern Nevada Coin, donated by Silver Sponsor, Northern Nevada Coin; an 1883 Carson City Silver Dollar, Vam 5 with GSA certificate of authenticity, donated by Sponsor, Vams and More, valued at $300; and an Assay Receipt from the U.S. Mint at Carson City, dated Dec. 1910, plus two CC Mint postcards from the 20s or 30s, donated by Sponsor Holabird-Kagin Americana and valued at $150.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $ 5, and can be purchased over the phone by calling 775-687-4810, ext. 237. Proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets support education and exhibits at the Nevada State Museum. The Grand Prize drawing will take place at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 28. You do not need to be present to win.
