The Higher Education Funding Council for England has just announced that it has awarded the Museum £725,000 for the year 2010-11, from its competitive ‘core funding’ stream for university museums. The award will continue for five years, subject to any reductions that may follow the next spending review.
Michael O’Hanlon, the Museum’s Director, said: “HEFCE core funding is absolutely key to the Museum’s capacity to care for the collections, and to make them available for teaching and research as well as to the 360,000 visitors who came to the Museum over the last year. This enhanced level of award, at a time when so many are suffering cuts, is a tribute to the Museum’s effectiveness and to the commitment of all our staff”.
