Glasgow Riverside Museum Appeal

The Riverside Museum Project is a £74m project which will see the creation of a new home for Glasgow’s Museum of Transport and the relocation of its collections to a new purpose built building on the River Clyde.

The existing Museum of Transport is the second most visited transport museum in the UK. Each year it welcomes on average 500,000 visitors. The museum, although popular cannot continue to house the collection in a long-term and stable environment.

In Spring 2011 the Museum of Transport will move to its new home: The Riverside Museum. Designed by leading architect Zaha Hadid CBE, the museum will present the collection in a breathtaking landmark building on the banks of the River Clyde. It will redisplay the collection in a more accessible way and ensure its long term viability. The Riverside Museum will have two glazed facades, facing on to the Clyde and Exhibition Square respectively. The dedicated main entrance will be to the north of the building.

The Riverside Museum is anticipated to welcome 800,000 visitors in its first year of operation.
