The Hunterian Museum main hall is getting a new roof. The entire Museum will be closed to the public from 24 December 2010.
It will re-open in June 2011 and will feature a new permanent gallery devoted to the Romans in Scotland.
The Hunterian Art Gallery, The Mackintosh House and Zoology Museum remain open as usual.
The new Roman Frontier Gallery will explore the interaction between the people of Scotland and the occupying Roman army, drawing on objects from the Hunterian’s internationally acclaimed collection.
These include a superb collection of monumental Roman sculpture from the frontier, an exceptional survival in the Roman world, and other unique artefacts illustrating life on the edge of the Roman empire 2000 years ago.
