Barnet Museum is facing a cut in all funding by the London Borough of Barnet Council, Supporters of Barnet Museum have set up an online petition which already has over 500 signatures.
The museum website says:
“We are surprised at Barnet Council’s remarkable lack of understanding of the wide range of work that the Barnet Museum undertakes. The Museum houses a vast collection that it has taken more than eighty years to accumulate but it is far more than just a place to visit and enjoy.”
Barnet Museum was opened in March 1938 at 31 Wood Street, to house the collection of the Barnet & District Local History Society . Its building is an attractive early Georgian house in the heart of Chipping Barnet. The Museum contains archives, objects, prints, photographs, paintings and maps reflecting the development of Chipping Barnet and the surrounding area, as well as a notable collection of period costumes and accessories, domestic items and lace.
