On Saturday, November 5th The National Academy hosts a day-long symposium of lectures, a film screening and a panel discussion on artist Will Barnet, looking at different aspects of the artist’s life, work and place within American art. A special highlight of the symposium is the screening of a documentary about Barnet, Will Barnet: Tracing the Soul of the Work, by filmmaker Dale Schierholt who will also introduce the film.
Symposium speakers include Dr. Bruce Weber, Senior Curator, National Academy Museum; Dr. W. Jackson Rushing III, Eugene B. Adkins Presidential Professor of Art History; Mary Lou Milner, Carver Chair in Native American Art, University of Oklahoma; Dr. Gail Stavitsky, Chief Curator, Montclair Art Museum; and Pam Koob, Curator of the Permanent Collection, The Art Students League of New York.
The panel discussion includes moderator, Richard Boyle, independent art historian and author and panelists Marshall Price, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, National Academy Museum; Philip Pearlstein, NA, painter; Audrey Flack, painter and sculptor; and Jessica Nicoll, Director and Louise Ines Doyle Chief Curator, Smith College Art Museum.
