SPRINGFIELD MUSEUMS TO PARTICIPATE IN BLUE STAR MUSEUMS PROGRAM

The Springfield Museums will be one of more than 1,300 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer. Through a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Blue Star Museums program offers free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day, 2011.

“We are proud and honored to participate in this wonderful program. It represents one small thing that the Springfield Museums can do as organization to support the men and women who are serving our country,” said Holly Smith-Bové, president of the Springfield Museums.

Free admission is available during the summer to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, including those stamped URW and DB. These include active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members, and up to five immediate family members.

The program provides general admission to all four Springfield Museums. Special exhibition and planetarium fees are not included.

Leadership support has been provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families. The complete list of participating museums is available at www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums
