As part of its 50th birthday celebrations the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation has generously awarded the Art Fund a grant to support RENEW, a funding scheme designed to encourage new approaches to collecting fine, decorative or applied art. RENEW is at the heart of the Art Fund’s programme of charitable activity and sits alongside reactive grant-making schemes for acquisitions.
RENEW aims to encourage future centres of excellence by supporting fresh areas of collecting in museums and galleries. It will provide 100% funding to enable the creation of up to six imaginative new collections or ‘capsule-collections’ which will have funds ring-fenced for the two-year duration of the scheme.
Stephen Deuchar, Director of the Art Fund, said: “The generous gift from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation will drive this really innovative scheme to encourage new kinds of collecting in UK museums and galleries. I can’t wait to see the results.”
