La Salle University Art Museum Presents Jeremy Waltman and Matt Miley: When She Strikes

The La Salle University Art Museum presents Jeremy Waltman and Matt Miley: When She Strikes, on view June 21 – August 11, 2011.

This collaborative installation by Florida State University MFAs Waltman and Miley comprises two large-scale 6 x 16 foot long drawings, video and found sound. Miley lives and works in Brooklyn and Waltman in Philadelphia.

Miley describes the original concept for the project as “an intellectual response to emotional events that mirror the dance party.” Miley’s drawing references Hurricane Katrina. The artist is from the area damaged by the hurricane and he sees events and relationships in his own life closely tied to that event and its aftermath. Waltman, who teaches in La Salle University’s Digital Arts Program, calls his drawing as a “multi-self-portrait…dealing with impact” He asks “what happens when you take on damage? How do you deal with it? Do you wilt? Are you destroyed? Do you overcome it? And then if you do overcome it, what will you do then?” Waltman summarizes that in this work both artists are looking at “events that can either transform you or destroy you.”
