Boston Children’s Museum (BCM) recently announced that it has received a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund. The Museum will use these funds to support various capital improvements, including the installation of additional security measures, the replacement of flooring on the first level, and the repair of the building’s east and north facades.
The grant is from a total of $7.4 million from the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund for repairs, improvements, and expansions for 54 organizations that plan to invest in their projects. Those receiving the grants had to endure an extensive application and review process that involves experts in building and non-profits, and a ranking system of impact on local communities. Awards ranged from $14,000 to $250,000.

It will enable us to continue to maintain our Museum to the highest standards thereby providing the best possible experience for the thousands of kids and their families and teachers that visit us each year,” said Carole Charnow, President & CEO, Boston Children’s Museum.
Organizations that received past CFF grants are spending more than $800 million on their building projects, and providing more than 11,000 building jobs, including architects, engineers, contractors, and construction workers. They also plan to add more than 1,150 new permanent jobs after their capital projects are complete.
The Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund is an initiative of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Fund was created as part of an economic stimulus bill that was approved by the Massachusetts Legislature in July, 2006. Since then, just over $37 million has been awarded to cultural facilities in the Commonwealth.
Gov. Deval L. Patrick said the grants would create new jobs in arts, culture and tourism, “the three pillars of our state’s creative economy.”
