The Dream of a King. Dresden’s Green Vault at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha

Until January 26, 2012, the Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault) is guest at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar, with a major special exhibition. The museum was designed by the internationally renowned architect I.M. Pei and opened in 2008. It counts among the most outstanding museum buildings of the past decades. There approximately 80 examples of Saxon treasure art dating from the 16th to the 18th century are to go on show on an area of 800 m².

Masterpieces of goldsmith and jewellery art, valuable items of amber and ivory, as well as vessels of precious stones and elaborate bronze statuettes belong to the selected objects. Next to the original art works from the collection of August the Strong, the exhibition presents needle-sharp photographic reproductions of the walls of the Historisches Grünes Gewölbe, which will convey an authentic impression of the original Baroque arrangement of the works of art to the visitor. Artworks and photographic reproductions will create a fascinating ensemble and, thus, provide future exhibitions with new impetus.
