Northwest Scale Modelers Massive Show of the Force at the Museum of Flight

The robot R2-D2 and other Star Wars characters will be among the guests at the annual Northwest Scale Modelers Show at the Museum on Feb. 18 and 19. The NorthWest Scale Modelers membership will push the envelope with a massive show of modeling force, attempting to stage the largest model show in Pacific Northwest history. A lecture at 2 p.m. will detail the design and building of a full-scale, operational replica of the “Star Wars” robot, R2-D2. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is free with admission to the Museum.

Northwest Scale Modelers Show

On display will be thousands of model aircraft, cars, tanks, ships, spacecraft and more from the NWSM collections. Expert modelers will be on hand to answer all questions about the fascinating hobby of scale modeling. The exhibition will feature special displays of models representing famous Russian “MiG” aircraft produced by the Mikoyan-and-Gurevich Design Bureau. Models of “Star Wars” creatures and hardware will also be on display.

Children age 6 and up are invited to learn the art of modeling during free “Make and Take” workshops sponsored by Galaxy Hobby and Skyway Model Shop. NWSM members will be on hand to help children build a scale aircraft model to take home.
