Star Wars” R2-D2 and R2-M5 guests at expansive exhibit of scale models
SEATTLE – “Star Wars” robots will be among the guests at the annual NorthWest Scale Modelers Show at the Museum on Feb. 8 and 9. Thousands of meticulously detailed models of all types make it the largest model show in Pacific Northwest. A lecture and demonstration on Feb. 9 at 2:30 p.m. will detail the design and building of full-scale, operational replicas of the “Star Wars” robots, R2-D2 and R2-M5. The robots will also be greeting visitors at the model show on Sunday. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is free with admission to the Museum.
On display will be model aircraft, cars, tanks, ships, spacecraft and more from the NWSM collections. There will also be special exhibits marking the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, and the important role women have played in the history and development of aviation. Expert modelers will be on hand to answer all questions about the fascinating hobby of scale modeling.
Children age 6 and up are invited to learn the art of modeling during free “Make and Take” workshops sponsored by Galaxy Hobby and Skyway Model Shop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. NWSM members will be on hand to help children build a scale aircraft model to take home.

Master Modelers Bob Jacobsen and Cole Horton will be on hand with their full-scale, operational R2-D2 and R2-M5 robots in a special lecture and demonstration. Jacobsen and Horton will talk about how robots were made and operated for movies, and they will demonstrate their own dynamic duo of droids. The modelers will field questions from the audience following the presentation. The program is free with admission to the Museum.

The Museum of Flight is located at 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle, Exit 158 off Interstate 5 on Boeing Field half-way between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac Airport. The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $19 for adults, $16 for seniors 65 and older, $16 for active military, $11 for youth 5 to 17, and free for children under 5.
