National Gallery of Victoria presents Time Catcher exhibition

The National Gallery of Victoria presents Time Catcher, an exhibition on view through 11 November 2012 at The Ian Potter Centre. NGV Kids Corner has transformed into a time capsule for the new exhibition.

Drawn entirely from the NGV Collection, this exhibition will take visitors on a journey from ancient Egypt to the modern day. Children and their families will be able to see the extraordinary designs on a 14th century vase reproduced on a bust created over 600 years later.

Incorporating a range of hands-on and multimedia experiences, Time Catcher will show how art has been used to interpret key moments in time. Children will be able to see firsthand how the creation of artworks have informed their understanding of the past, present and future.

Frances Lindsay, Deputy Director, NGV said: “This unique exhibition space introduces children to the richness of the arts at a young age, inspiring their imaginations and developing an interest in the arts through creative interactive learning”.

Children from 0-8 can participate in self-led activities provided to guide them through the exhibition, complemented by a range of interactive multimedia displays. Time Catcher will allow children to test their detective skills using the Time Mission by following clues to find the artworks and watch themselves on screen, immersed in the changing seasons.

Ms Lindsay said: “The Gallery has always offered an outstanding range of high quality programs and activities designed to introduce young children to the visual arts. As a devoted kids’ space, NGV Kids Corner brings children, families and art together in a fun and creative environment.”

NGV Kids Corner has an engaging program of events and activities planned throughout the duration of this exhibition. Please visit ngv.vic.gov.au for up to date information. – www.ngv.vic.gov.au
