Museet for Samtidskunst announces ACTS Festival for Performative Art

Museet for Samtidskunst, Denmark announces ACTS Festival for Performative Art, open Saturday 16 June, 2–9pm and Sunday 17 June, 2–8pm.

For the second time the Museum of Contemporary Art presents ACTS – Festival for Performative Art. ACTS 2012 will take place in an enormous factory hall at the industrial compound Musicon in Roskilde. With its 1,800 square meters, the factory hall creates an impressive setting for the festival, featuring live performances at the intersection of image, sound, and performing arts.

ACTS 2012 will present works by international visual, performance, and sound artists. This year’s program presents a variety of performances from all three fields but is influenced by performances that relates to visual art. ACTS 2012 will have the character of a “living exhibition” with shifting performances as well as durational performances during the two days program.

The main programme presents brand new performances by Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Sophie Dupont, and Molly Haslund. Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt presents the first and second part of a new performance trilogy about firearms in collaboration with Matthias Meppelink, and sound artist Mads Bech Paluszewski will greet the audience from Copenhagen with a bus sound installation created for the occasion. Musician Dorit Chrysler will perform with her theremin, an early electronical instrument, together with visual artist Katherine Liberovskaya. A performance concert by FOS will be held off site in the theatre space, Laboratoriet and the artist band Ben, Rör and Stampes will demonstrate their automatic drumming machine. Hartmut Stockter will demonstrate new conveniences at the outdoor area at Musicon.

A special section of the program has been curated by Lilith Performance Studio from Malmö, who hae specialized in producing performances by visual artists from around the world. They will present 4 durational set performances by Einat Amir, Elin Lundgren & Petter Pettersson, Tanya Mars, and Morgan Schagerberg.

Another part of the program is Art Parade, a concept made and curated by participating artists Lone Bank, Tanja Rau, Dorte Buchwald and Christina Hamre. 13 Artists and artist groups and their participators will do an artistic parade from the Museum of Contemporary Art in the centre of Roskilde to Musicon, where they will install there objects, banners, carriages and more.

Additionally, Samtalekøkkenet – Take Out (“conversation kitchen”), performance artists and facilitators of discussions about performance art, will visit the festival in a “take out” version. Participators: Torben Sangild (art critic), Judith Schwarzbart (PhD), Ellen and Henrik Vestergaard Friis. Food will be served by the cook Sonja Barfod.

The Museum of Contemporary Art established ACTS – Festival for Performative Art in 2011. The museum has its main focus on ephemeral and time based art with a point of departure in visual art, experimental music, and conceptual art forms.
