Bring your family, guests, lawn chairs, and blankets for an evening of music, dancing, and fireworks under the stars in historic St. Michaels. Featuring the 17-piece band The Rhythm Doctors, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will host Big Band Night on Saturday, June 30 from 7-10 pm. The rain date for the concert is Sunday, July 1, and the rain date for St. Michaels fireworks is Saturday, July 7.
The live concert will be performed from the museum’s Tolchester Beach Bandstand. Admission for Big Band Night is $5 for museum members ($10 for non-members), with children under 12 free. Guests entering after 8:45pm for the fireworks will be charged $2 for admission. With a variety of food, non-alcoholic beverages, and desserts offered, guests can also bring their own picnics to campus.
The Rhythm Doctors carry a 70-year tradition of sharing big band music throughout the mid-Atlantic region. The band’s smooth and powerful sound comes from four trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, a rhythm section and vocalists. The Rhythm Doctors are known for their Glenn Miller and Count Basie repertoire as well as for the one-of-a-kind swinging arrangements custom-written by arranger and former director Warren Keyser.
With the St. Michaels fireworks scheduled to launch at dark that evening, the museum’s Navy Point location offers a great land venue from which visitors can enjoy the fireworks. Big Band Night is generously sponsored by The Talbot Bank, Wye Financial & Trust, and Avon Dixon Insurance Agency. The museum will also be hosting the 5th annual Chesapeake Folk Festival on July 28.
