The Charles H. MacNider Art Museum hosts Area Show. 43 on July 6 – September 1, 2012. The competition for the show is open to all artists above high school age residing within 100 miles of Mason City, encompassing North Central Iowa and Southern Minnesota. Entering artists are competing for the opportunity to have their work exhibited and for cash awards. The artist with the entry chosen Best in Show will be granted with a solo exhibition at the MacNider Art Museum in 2013. Three artists will receive the $250 Excellence Awards, two will received the Merit Awards at $100 each, and a $50 Most Daring Award will also be given. In addition, Honorable Mentions will be awarded.
The juror for Area Show: 43 is Darrell Taylor. Taylor is Director of the University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art and Overseer at the University of Northern Iowa Permanent Art Collection.
Area Show: 43 will have an awards program and artist reception on Saturday, July 14, beginning at 2 p.m. Awards will be announced and presented at 2:30 p.m. This lively reception celebrating the exhibition will provide a rare chance for the public to meet and converse with the artists.
