Denver Art Museum presents Focus. Earth & Fire, an exhibition on view through August 5, 2012.
Focus: Earth and Fire showcases ceramic work in the DAM’s modern and contemporary art collection, as well as paintings that respond to earth and fire. This presentation takes the widest approach to the theme and celebrates the myriad artistic responses to rugged mountains, powerful earthquakes and volcanoes, blazing forest fires and even the hot sunlight pouring down from millions of miles away. In the Vicki and Kent Logan Gallery, selections on view —ranging from Roxy Paine’s Vibrating Field to an enormous Richard Phillips painting of a woman with a conspicuous sunburn – all are drawn from the Logan Collection, from which many pieces have been gifted to the DAM. Work by Colorado artist Vance Kirkland will be featured in the third level Chambers and Grant Gallery, showing the artist’s early watercolor scenes from nature, as well as his late paintings that respond to the sublime energy of heat, fire and the great mysteries of space. – www.denverartmuseum.org
