Smithsonian Supplier Diversity Program hosts informational outreach event

The Smithsonian Supplier Diversity Program will host an informational outreach event on August 14, 2012 at 10:30am – 12:30pm, to discuss design, construction and facilities maintenance opportunities at the Smithsonian. Information on the Smithsonian’s Supplier Diversity Program, federal contracting requirements and key contacts at the Smithsonian in design, construction and facilities management will be available. Small businesses are encouraged to attend.

The Smithsonian is fully committed to fair employment practices in all its projects, including the architectural design and construction of its newest museum, the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The museum broke ground on the last available space on the National Mall in February 2012. It will be the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, art, history and culture. Scheduled to open in 2015, the museum will be the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold-certified museum on the National Mall. Freelon Adjaye Bond/SmithGroup is the building’s designer; Clark/Smoot/Russell is the construction firm.
