Lancaster Museum of Art and History announces Creatures of Clay, an exhibition on view September 6th – November 24th,2012.
Creatures of Clay is a series of sculptures of real and imagined animals designed by residents of Antelope Valley apartment communities, the Arbor at Palmdale and Village Pointe. Over a series of weeks, students actively explore a creature of interest through the analysis of shape, form and history. After thoroughly examining contextual narratives and physical attributes, they construct a sculpture of their chosen subject. Throughout this process, from research to design and sculpting, students document their findings and progress in a companion portfolio journal. Supported by community partners InSite Development + Housing Corporation of America + Solar City.
