Stark Museum of Art announces Drop-In Art Activities

The Stark Museum of Art is offering drop-in art activities in the lobby on select dates in November, December and January. Families can drop by and enjoy the exhibit On the Wing: Birds in Books of Hours while participating in educational art projects. These holiday activities are free for all ages and will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Drop-in activities will be available on the following dates:

November 20, 2012­ – Search for the seasons in the galleries and then create your own autumn leaf art.
November 21, 2012 – Gobble, gobble! Create art to grace the table at your Thanksgiving feast.
November 23, 2012 – Create a holiday ornament inspired by a painting on display in the Museum.
November 24, 2012 – See Charlie Russell’s illustrated letters and then make your own holiday cards.
December 26, 2012 – Celebrate! Create wearable art to don during your New Year’s celebration.
December 27, 2012 – Make your own sparkling ball to drop during the New Year’s countdown.
December 28, 2012 – Cheers! Create a special cup to toast the New Year!
January 2, 2013 – Visit the medieval illuminated manuscripts on view and then make your own minibook.
January 3, 2013 – Look for birds in the Books of Hours and then create your own bird art.
January 4, 2013 – Create an illuminated page with calligraphy illustrations and decorative jewels.

On drop-in days, docents will assist visitors of all ages with activities inspired by art on view in the Museum’s galleries. The mini-exhibit On the Wing, which highlights medieval books of hours, is currently on view. These illuminated manuscripts date from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and feature religious imagery, some of which is Christmas-themed. On the Wing will be displayed through January 12, 2013.
