Film Screening: Howl

In celebration of Allen Ginsberg’s birthday (he would have been 87 on June 3) the Contemporary Jewish Museum screens the modern classic film Howl which explores the sensationalism surrounding the publication of one of the most important poems of the twentieth century. The film is a great primer to Ginsberg’s poem “Howl” and the accompanying obscenity trials that changed the future of modern literature. Film directed by Rob Epstein and starring Jon Hamm and Mary Louise Parker; animation by Eric Drooker (84 min, 2010).

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Beat Memories: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg.

Free matinee screenings are presented in conjunction with the Museum’s admission-free first
Tuesdays of the month.
