Outwit, outplay and outlast at Cincinnati Museum Center

Survivor: South Pacific offers unique challenges, cool cocktails, tropical fun and past Survivor contestants

CINCINNATI – Have you ever wondered how you’d fair stranded on an island in the South Pacific? What if you were reduced to eating bugs and rigging up some precarious contraption for survival? Think some knowledge of local geography and wildlife might help? Survivor: South Pacific at Cincinnati Museum Center will put your courage and will power to the test on May 17 during an evening of fun challenges, tropical drinks, delicious desserts, an awe-inspiring OMNIMAX® film and local Survivor contestants.

bugsInspired by the popular TV show Survivor and the OMNIMAX® film Journey to the South Pacific, Survivor: South Pacific will turn Museum Center into an island paradise, complete with cockroaches and mealworms. Survivors will be split into two tribes before they compete in challenges to see which tribe can outplay, outlast and outsmart the other. Will you help the Belajar tribe win the team challenges, or will you earn your spot on the Membuat tribe by competing in individual events? Consult local Survivor contestants Matt Bischoff (Season 26) and Rodger Bingham (Season 2) to gain an edge over your opponents.

You can choose to do individual challenges to give your tribe an added bonus. These challenges will test your mental strength as you attempt to hold a cockroach, or five! You’ll also be asked to eat five mealworms and, the hard part, keep them down. Your ingenuity will be challenged as you attempt to build a domino tower three feet high. Steady your nerves and steady your hands as you balance on a 2 x 4 while trying to balance a variety of objects atop a dowel rod.

After the individual challenges, survivor competitors will watch the OMNIMAX® film Journey to the South Pacific, an adventure above and below the waves that explores the beauty of the South Pacific landscape and wildlife. Follow Jawi, a young boy from West Papua, as he travels the South Pacific learning about the wildlife he shares the islands with and the steps he can take to preserve that environment. Pay close attention, because there will be a quiz afterward that will be critical to your tribe’s success.

Team challenges will require communication, strategy and focus. Tribes will need to carefully turn over the tarp their standing on without stepping off to reveal a combination. The combination will unlock a chest for the next stage of the challenge which will require steady hands and patience. The second challenge will test your knowledge of Journey to the South Pacific as you pass a hula loop from tribe member to tribe member before you answer questions about the film in order to secure puzzle pieces. The tribe to complete their puzzle first wins the challenge.

Win or lose, you and your tribe can reward yourselves with island fare including fruits and cheeses and desserts sure to make any survivor’s mouth water. You can wash down the mealworms with drinks from a cash bar, including two specialty drinks. Try a Blind Side, a refreshing cocktail of vodka and cranberry and grapefruit juices, or an Alliance, a mix of vodka, sugar, lime, mint and sparkling water sure to quench your thirst after the grueling challenges.

Survivor: South Pacific will test your skills and instincts on May 17 at Cincinnati Museum Center. Cash bar opens at 7 p.m. and individual challenges begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for Members, $30 for non-Members and includes food and admission to the OMNIMAX® film Journey to the South Pacific.
