Comic book artists gather at the “Hall of Justice” for creative inspiration September 5
CINCINNATI – Just as Union Terminal served as inspiration for artists in the 1970s to model the Hall of Justice after its iconic façade, the building continues to inspire comic book artists today. Friday, September 5, Union Terminal will host Cincy ComiCon’s Drink & Draw, an event where comic book artists from across the country will gather to use the architecture and artifacts inside Cincinnati Museum Center as inspiration.
During an evening of drinks and frivolity, amateur and professional comic book artists will gather at Union Terminal to create new works of art during Cincy ComiCon’s Drink & Draw. For some, Union Terminal will always be the Hall of Justice. For others it will become the setting for new epic adventures involving aliens, zombies or heroes and creatures yet to be realized until pencils meet the sketchbook.
“The greater comic book and art community outside of Cincinnati will forever identify the building as a model for the Super Friends’ Hall of Justice,” says Kendall Swafford, Grand Poobah of Cincy ComiCon. “But unleashing their creativity inside the museums will produce plenty of incredible new pieces of art.”
You’ll have a chance to get your hands on one of these works of art Saturday, September 6 at 8 p.m. during Cincy ComiCon’s Art Auction at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. A portion of the proceeds from the art auction and ticket sales to Drink & Draw will be donated to Cincinnati Museum Center, lending support for the repair of Union Terminal, aka the Hall of Justice.
“Even superheroes need help sometimes,” says Elizabeth Pierce, vice president at Cincinnati Museum Center. “Cincy ComiCon and all of those who donate and purchase art from Drink & Draw are heroes to Union Terminal.”
Drink & Draw tickets are $15 and open to all ages. Food will be available at the event as well as a cash bar. Cincy ComiCon proof of admission is required. Drink & Draw tickets are available at cincycomicon.com or by clicking here.
Cincy ComiCon is September 5-7 and will feature artists and writers from comics like Batman, The Walking Dead, Wolverine, My Little Pony and Avengers. For more information on Cincy ComiCon, visit www.cincycomicon.com
