Cincinnati, OH – The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is hosting a media preview for new fall exhibition Kin Killin’ Kin Friday, November 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the Skirball Gallery.
Kin Killin’ Kin is a striking visual experience exploring youth violence in inner city communities. Local artist and Cincinnati’s School for Creative and Performing Arts alum James Pate uses charcoal to create compelling visual scenes of young black men donned in Ku Klux Klan hoods committing or in the act of committing violent acts. Pate’s series was inspired by conversations he had in his own community, calling out the similarities between gang violence and the terrorism inflicted by the Ku Klux Klan.
Media will have an opportunity to interview local artist James Pate and curator Willis Bing Davis.
Kin Killin’ Kin opens to the public Saturday, November 14. The Kin Killin’ Kin series is organized by SHANGO: Center for the Study of African American Art and Culture & EbonNia Gallery and curated by Willis Bing Davis. To learn more, visit freedomcenter.org/KinKillinKin
