In late spring 2011, over 150 items from Bolton Museum’s ancient Egyptian collection will be travelling to Taiwan to begin a tour of China and neighbouring regions. This tour is being arranged for China Media Times by United Exhibits Group, whose headquarters are in Copenhagen. The tour will last about 2 years.
The exhibition, ‘The Quest for Immortality’ is almost entirely composed of objects from Bolton’s collection and features a full-scale reproduction of the tomb chamber of Thutmose III.
Thutmose III was one of the most powerful kings of ancient Egypt and his tomb is known for its wall paintings. We are very excited about this rare opportunity to share our wonderful collection with a wide range of people in Asia.
Over the next few months, we will be preparing the objects travelling to Taiwan for transport and exhibition. This preparation will make it necessary to remove some objects from our current display. This gives us the opportunity to bring out objects from storage that haven’t been on exhibit for many years.
As a result, between January and May 2011, there will be the chance of some disruption to the Egypt gallery, but also the prospect of seeing many new treasures.
