International Art Spaces Directory Co published by the New Museum and ArtAsiaPacific

To accompany the second New Museum Triennial (opening in February 2012), the New Museum and ArtAsiaPacific are gathering information about international art spaces. This research is the basis for an international Art Spaces Directory to serve as a follow-up companion to the 2009 Artists Directory published as part of the first New Museum Triennial, “Younger than Jesus.” This book will present 500 key art spaces as well as contextualizing essays.

Inspired by the publications Alternatives (2001), the second edition Alternatives 2005: Contemporary Art Spaces in Asia (both conceived by Yasuko Furuichi for the Japan Foundation), and the annual almanacs produced by ArtAsiaPacific, the New Museum and ArtAsiaPacific look to create a database of key art spaces that develop exhibitions, discursivity, and community for emerging artists. By focusing on arts organizations with innovative programming, we hope to produce a useful directory for artists, arts professionals, and patrons of the arts to support future activity in contemporary art.

In order to organize and sort this information, participating organizations are asked to self-present their program. Non-commercial, non-collecting spaces with regular public hours are invited to email [email protected] to request submission materials. Materials must be received by Friday, August 5 for consideration.
