Brian Nettles, Boat, 2009 Wheel thrown and altered, cone 10 reduction fired with ash and Shino glazes Collection of the artist

The ceramic art of Mississippi artist Brian Nettles is influenced by nature’s shapes, forms, textures and rich organic colors. From his 28 acres in Pass Christian, Mississippi, located along the banks of the winding Wolf River, the nearby bayous, creeks and cypress swamps provide inspiration for his pottery. Brian built his own home, ceramics studio and Anagama kiln and lives on his land as self-sufficiently as possible. Brian’s work reflects the long history of ceramics and maritime activity on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. His high-fired clay, typically turned on the potter’s wheel, is sometimes altered to experiment with form.
