The Museum of Art Lucerne presents an exhibition of work by Matthew Day Jackson, on view 22 Oct, 2011 – 15 Jan 2012.
Along with two other noted museums, Museum of Art Lucerne is presenting the first solo show by Matthew Day Jackson in Europe. The American artist, born in 1974, has recently enjoyed great success with exhibitions in the United States; his work has caused an international furore, and is already represented in significant private and public collections all around the world.
Jackson distinguishes himself with profound research into anthropology and the history of western civilisations. He is particularly interested in highly complex topics such as nuclear technology and astronautics, so that his work develops along the line between myth and reality, between progress and destruction, between technology and religion. Subtly and in a virtuoso fashion, Jackson makes use of the mechanisms of the diverse media landscape that shapes contemporary society. However, a point of reference is always the person and existence of the artist himself. www.kunstmuseumluzern.ch
