Dine with Design. A Culinary Event to Benefit The Glass House

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The Philip Johnson Glass House, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, invites the community to attend the second annual Dine with Design. The epicurean event, to be held at the Glass House on Saturday, June 9, offers two ways to experience the historic site. From 12pm to 3pm, the Modern Picnic provides an opportunity to sample savory dishes prepared by six award-winning chefs and ten talented artisans while exploring the buildings, grounds and art collections located on the 49-acre site. Beginning at 6:30pm, The Food Film Festival™ makes its first appearance outside of New York City and Chicago. The theater-style experience delights audiences as it offers the chance to taste what they see on the screen.

Guests will meet the chefs and artisans, sample their cuisine, stroll leisurely through the site and enjoy shuttle service to and from The Glass House courtesy of Callari Auto Group.

The Food Film Festival™
On June 9, The Food Film Festival™ will make its first appearance outside of NYC and Chicago at The Glass House. As part of Dine with Design, Festival co-founder George Motz will present eight short films that represent the most significant films shown during the Festival’s five-year history. Motz aims to transport guests on a multi-sensory journey organized as a multi-course sampling.

The evening begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres provided by Artisan Executive Chef Frederic Kieffer. Guests then take their seats for the film portion of the event, featuring films that advance from appetizers through main course and desserts including:

The Perfect Oyster – A portrait of Northwest Canadian oysterman Brent Petkau and his oysters;
A Love Supreme – An illustration of making samosas, inspired by the boxing sequences from Scorsese’s Raging Bull. A tribute to the director’s mother (who has rheumatoid arthritis in her knees and shoulders); this is a record of her hands in case they become disabled;
What’s Virgin Mean? – A young girl asks her mother an awkward question. Will this middle-class mum display her impeccable liberal credentials by explaining honestly? Or will she try and squirm her way out of it?
Zergüt – Animated food film where the moldy, forgotten foods in the rear of a refrigerator rise up against the fresh foods that reside up front;
Harvest to Heat – Demonstrating the unique relationship between chef and artisan exemplified by Chef Bill Taibe of Le Farm and The Whelk, and master farmer Annie Farrell of Millstone Farm;
Cud – The story of a Georgia rancher who eschews traditional corn-feeding to raise grass-fed cattle;
Ice Cream Picasso – No one is more inventive or passionate on the subject of ice cream than Bruce Becker of Max & Mina’s. This Flushing, Queens ice cream shop boasts over 4,000 flavors, some as bizarre as beer and grass;
Pastry Paris – Visually arresting Parisian pastries photographed with their sculptural
Parisian counterparts.
