Dulwich Picture Gallery announce that it has been granted £2 million in endowment funding by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Catalyst Endowments scheme. This generous pledge challenges the Gallery to raise another £4 million in matching donations to create a new £6m endowment fund for visual arts learning.

Income from this new endowment fund will be dedicated to safeguarding the sustainability and growth of the Gallery’s award-winning and life-changing learning and community engagement programmes, curatorial research and the provision of research services for students. In addition, it will help the Gallery attract new supporters and encourage existing donors to give towards its endowment.

The Gallery’s renowned learning and outreach programmes incorporate a wide range of activity and embrace the broadest social spectrum. At its core are the schools and community engagement initiatives. These programmes are free to all participants. The fund will support the Gallery’s ongoing aim to be an independent centre of excellence for learning in the visual arts.
The new endowment fund is part of the Gallery’s Picture Our Future campaign which draws on the Gallery’s tradition of visionary philanthropy. Thanks to generous donations from individuals, international trusts and foundations, and corporations, including The Dr Mortimer and Theresa Sackler Foundation, The Garfield Weston Foundation, the Linbury Trust, the Arthur and Holly Magill Foundation and the Lupton family the Gallery is over two-thirds towards its target. The campaign has four goals: increase the endowment by £10 million so that it can secure core artistic and outreach activities as well as retain and reward the best and the brightest; launch a new £5 million Gallery Initiatives Fund that responds to opportunities and community need; invest £4 million in special exhibitions and projects that have an immediate impact and will raise the Gallery’s international profile and invest £1 million in capital refurbishments to improve preservation, access, and visitor experience.

The Gallery strives to be distinguished by innovation in all that it does and to lead the way for independent museums internationally.
