Pride-inspired children’s programming at Cincinnati Museum Center

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) is helping empower kids to embrace their full selves during a month of programming for Pride Month. The Children’s Museum programming will include art activities, story times and more to encourage self-confidence and self-expression.

Throughout June, CMC will be hosting a mural-making experience in the Children’s Museum. Teaching artists Dai Williams and Lizzy DuQuette will lead the activity in KidSPACE, inspiring young artists to find meaning in the art of collaboration in the communal mural project. Each Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m., Williams and DuQuette will encourage kids to draw self-portraits of their best selves, build worlds with painted and collaged sticker materials and to paint directly on parachute cloth. Kids will even have the opportunity to make stickers to take home with them. At the end of the project, CMC will hang the mural and encourage guests to “step into” the world of the mural.

CMC is also bringing back in-person Story Tree Time. Every Thursday in June at 11 a.m., CMC is partnering with the Midpointe Library for story times in the Little Sprouts Farm with a selection of books including Red: A Crayon’s Story, a book about a blue crayon mislabeled red that goes through an identity crisis as it tries to find its true self; Jamie is Jamie, a story about a child whose toy choices don’t follow the normal boys and trucks, girls and dolls rule; Jamie and Bubbie, a multigenerational book about respecting people’s pronouns.

There will also be story times in KidSPACE, where artists and authors will pair their readings with art or craft activities.
11 a.m., Saturday, June 11
