CBMM Hosts Maritime Maryland Book Signing on October 10

On Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 2–4 pm, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) welcomes author William S. Dudley for a reception and book signing of his latest work, Maritime Maryland.

The reception includes dessert, coffee, and tea. The cost is $8 for CBMM members and $10 for non-members. The event and reception is hosted by CBMM and John Hopkins University Press.

Dudley paints a vivid picture of Maryland’s maritime past in its broadest scope, exploring the complex and nuanced interactions of humans, land, and water through descriptions of shipbuilding, steam technology, agricultural pollution, commercial and passenger transportation, naval campaigns, watermen, crabbing, and oystering. Dudley also discusses the evolution of recreational boating––yachting, cruising, and racing––and the role of underwater archaeology in uncovering the bay’s shipwrecks. These interactions become chapters in the larger story of Maryland’s waterways, a story that Dudley tells through insightful prose and stunning illustrations.

Pre-registration is needed by October 4. For more information, contact Helen Van Fleet, CBMM’s reservation specialist at [email protected] or at 410-745-4941.
