Artist Faith Ringgold to Present Children’s Books and Story Quilts Lecture at the Foundry Art Centre

This lecture by influential artist Faith Ringgold focuses on storytelling and the combination of image and text.

It begins with the story quilts of the 1980s, and moves between images from books to images on quilts. Hear the story about how Ms. Ringgold’s first children’s narrative, Tar Beach, began as a painting and evolved into an award-winning children’s book.

Faith Ringgold is an acclaimed painter, writer, speaker, mixed media sculptor and performance artist who lives and works in Englewood, New Jersey. Ms. Ringgold is professor emeritus at the University of California, San Diego where she taught art from 1987 until 2002. She has received numerous national and internation art awards, and her works have been exhibited in culturally significant museums and galleries in the United States, Europe, Asia, South America, Middle East and Africa.
