Childrens Museum of Fond du Lac awarded Efroymson Family Fund grant

The Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac (CMFDL) has received a $10,000 grant from the Efroymson Family Fund of the Central Indiana Community Foundation. The grant has come to the museum at a critical time as a facility task force, appointed by its board of directors, is working to identify site options to support the museum’s growth and operations.

“Mr. Efroymson’s generous donation has provided the fuel needed by the museum to transcend our strategic goals related to facilities and programming. This catalyst and our specialized team will build a framework that can support our current and future growth,” stated Andrea Welsch, CMFDL Executive Director.

The task force is comprised of the CMFDL’s board of directors as well as representatives from CD Smith and Commonwealth Construction. Leaders from the City of Fond du Lac, Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership and the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation have also pledged support to assist the museum in creating a plan to continue the support of area economic development and address a reoccurring issue of space shortage due to increased program demand and visitor traffic.

The Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac began offering interactive exhibits to the community in 2002. In 2007, the organization moved into the Windhover Center, which is owned and operated by the Fond du Lac Arts Council.
“The growth of the museum each year since we moved into the Windhover Center in 2007 is directing us to pursue opportunities for the children and families of Fond du Lac and beyond, and we are excited to be moving down this path,” said Rose Ahern, CMFDL board and Task Force member.

“The facility study will identify the best solution to meet the strategic goals of the Children’s Museum, as well as support community initiatives related to healthy childhood development,” Ahern added.

Excel Engineering and BrownBoots Interactive are assisting the task force in the preparation and presentation of a conceptual facility design as the museum prepares for the end of its lease with the Fond du Lac Arts Council at its current location, potentially as soon as the end of 2012.

“Presenting a conceptual design will help us move our planning along,” stated Mike Shedivy, President of CMFDL’s Board of Directors. “We have made no decisions about our future home, nor do we have concrete plans in place to move or build. We do however know that we face several facility constraints, including our lease agreement with the Fond du Lac Arts Council as they pursue their own growth opportunities and require more space. We are eager to move through a process with our supporters to identify the best alternative for the kids in our community,” Shedivy commented.
