Cincinnati Museum Center welcomes collection of turtles and fish home with ribbon cutting ceremony
CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Museum Center is unveiling a new aquarium in the Duke Energy Children’s Museum on Saturday, June 28.
The Duke Energy Children’s Museum will be hosting family-friendly activities including watercolor mural painting from 10 – 11 a.m. before special guests cut the ribbon to open the new aquarium at 11 a.m. One of the special guests will be Peter Niehoff who will be reunited with his childhood pet and longtime resident of the Children’s Museum, Bodhi. Peter will once again bid Bodhi a fond farewell as he places her into her new aquarium home where visitors to Museum Center can enjoy watching her swim and play.
The aquarium, located in the Woods area of the Duke Energy Children’s Museum, has been closed since early January to make way for the new bigger aquarium giving Bodhi and her friends more room to swim and guests a better view. The custom aquarium measures 15 feet long by 5 feet high and features a crawl-in tunnel that gives visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the underwater environment. It also provides mom and dad a great photo opportunity as those in the tunnel look like they’re actually in the tank.
Bodhi won’t be alone in her new home. A collection of fish will keep Bodhi and her turtle friends company. Those turtles include Shelly, Penelope and a female red-eared slider that has never officially been named. She’s been called many nicknames in her time in the Duke Energy Children’s Museum, but we think it’s time she has an official name. Fans on Facebook and Twitter liked, retweeted and favorited their favorite of six names for the new turtle. Her new forever name will be announced this Saturday, June 28 during the ribbon cutting ceremony where she will join Bodhi, Shelly, Penelope and their fish friends in their new home.
The new aquarium was designed by Living Color Aquariums, stars of the Nat Geo Wild show Fish Tank Kings. Living Color Aquariums is known for their elaborate custom aquariums and exhibits and has many high-profile clients including Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, Rainforest Café, Bass Pro Shops and the Miami Marlins. Museum Center’s aquarium was specially-designed to give guests a unique experience unlike any the team at Living Color has designed before.
The ribbon cutting event and activities are free to Cincinnati Museum Center Members and is included with admission to the Duke Energy Children’s Museum.
