Saint Louis Art Museum Opens Martha Colburn Triumph of the Wild

The Saint Louis Art Museum presents Martha Colburn: Triumph of the Wild on view in Gallery 301 from June 17 through September 5, 2011.

Artist and filmmaker Martha Colburn depicts a frenetic, whirlwind narrative of an epic topic—the history of American war from Bunker Hill to Baghdad—collapsed into a 10-minute animated film in the Museum’s latest New Media Series installation, Triumph of the Wild (2008–9). Deploying hand-colored animation, collage, found imagery, and a novel use of jigsaw puzzles, Colburn offers a visually accessible film that is also brutally honest about the consequences of war.

Exhibition curated by Tricia Y. Paik, assistant curator of modern and contemporary art
